Acceleration COVID-19 Vaccine

In supporting the acceleration of COVID-19 vaccination, Yayasan Care Peduli together with the Indonesian Red Cross distributed assistance in Sukabumi Regency in the form of 116 air purifiers, as well as assistance for health workers in 58 health centers such as PPE, supplements and vitamins. In addition, YCP also disseminated the importance of vaccination as well as providing incentives for basic necessities to the people who participated in the vaccination. In Purwakarta Regency, 60 aid packages have been distributed to health workers, 300 vitamin packages and 300 basic food packages, while in Bandung Regency, 2 air purifiers, 30 packages for health workers, and 760 vitamin packages.

Assisting Children in Learning Without Violence

In early 2022, PROSPER II held a meeting for parents of little doctors with the theme “Accompanying Children to Learn Without Violence.” The basis of this activity is how during the COVID-19 pandemic, children learn online and interactions with families are very large as long as they accompany children to learn without violence. This activity is part of the Little Doctor activities. Where this meeting has two major goals, namely to build understanding of the Little Doctor’s parents or guardians in providing non-violent assistance either at home or in the environment where the Little Doctor lives, as well as equalizing perceptions and building partnerships between teachers and parents so that parents can accompany their children in learning activities at home in an interesting way and without violence.

Participants who attended the meeting were parents or guardians of Little doctors. Most of them, have never received education about mentoring with the theme “Accompanying Children to Learn Without Violence”. Therefore, the participants really appreciated this meeting, especially the interest in information about the impact of errors in the way of mentoring children’s learning at home that cause trauma to children in the future.

This meeting also involved participants outside the PROSPER school, namely in Bone Regency presenting village officials and several Community-Based Integrated Child Protection Coordinators (PATBM) at village level, while in Serang Regency presenting the Banten Children’s Forum. The Bone team and the PATBM team have prepared a follow-up plan that focuses on cadre formation, socialization and empowerment to village residents, while the Banten Children’s Forum can be a motivation for Little Doctors to become agents of change in their living environment or among their peers.

Integrated Personal and Career Enhancement Program Module Training

The PACE program has been carried out since 2018, currently entering phase 3 and is the last year this program has been carried out in Bandung Regency. In 2022 the capacity building activities carried out include training and learning the integrated PACE module with Counseling Guidance subjects in 30 pilot schools in Bandung Regency. From the learning of the PACE module integrated with the subject, there were 2,234 junior high school students, and 796 junior high school students who succeeded through the module learning consisting of 30 sessions.

YCP also held discussions with children who had participated in the integrated PACE module learning with the Counseling Guidance subject, namely at SMPN 1 Pasir Jambu, SMPN 1 Ciwidey, SMPN 1 Katapang, and SMPN 2 Margaasih. There were about 20 children in each school who were actively involved in the discussion. In this discussion, the majority of children said that they felt more confident to express their opinions, both at school and in the family after participating in the PACE program.

Meanwhile, at the advocacy level, the activities that have been carried out include hearings with the Regent of Bandung, H. M. Dadang Supriatna, S.I.P., M.Si. and the Head of the Bandung Regency Education Office, Drs. H. Ruli Hadiana, S. Sos., M. Ipol. In addition to providing reports on the PACE program in the last 6 months and informing the plan for a new project in Bandung Regency, CEO of Yayasan Care Peduli, Bonaria Siahaan encourages this PACE module to be integrated into the Education curriculum, so that it can continue to be used throughout Bandung Regency. The Regent gave a positive response and made a commitment to follow up with the extension of the agreement which will expire in February 2022.

Mount Semeru Eruption Emergency Response

On Saturday, December 4, 2021 at 15:15 PST, there was an eruption of Mount Semeru, located in Lumajang Regency, East Java. According to the latest data, there were 50 fatalities and 10,400 residents displaced in 406 points. Evacuation points are still concentrated in three sub-districts, namely Candipuro, Pasirian, and Pronojiwo sub-districts.

As an emergency response, Yayasan Care Peduli in collaboration with the Indonesian Red Cross distributed 300 packages of household equipment to the refugees of Semeru. A total of 200 aid packages were distributed by Red Cross volunteers on duty at the Penanggal Village Command Post to refugees from Sumber Wuluh Village, Candipuro District. Meanwhile, the other 100 packages were distributed to refugees from Supit Urang Village, Pronojiwo District at the Pronojiwo Command Post. In addition to distributing Emergency Response assistance, the YCP Emergency  Response Manager, T. Khairil Azmi participated in coordination meetings with the Regional Government and the Emergency Response Post for Hot Clouds and Abortions related to the relocation and construction plan of 2,000 Temporary Shelters by the District Government of Lumajang.

Managing Editor of English Tempo Magazine, Purwani Diyah Prabandari (Mba Ndari) visited the location of the Livelihood Recovery program in Donggala Regency, Central Sulawesi, precisely in Tompe Village, Lompio Village, and Tanjung Padang Village in Sirenja District, and Tosale Village, Banawa District on 14-17 December 2021.

During this visit, Mba Ndari interviewed several members of the Usaha Bersama Community, Melati Community, and the Tani Sejati Community consisting of housewives, as well as Fishermen Community. During this visit, Mba Ndari conducted interviews with victims affected by the 2018 tsunami and earthquake who were also beneficiaries of the YCP program. From Emergency Response programs to Livelihood Restoration programs, the Central Sulawesi woman has recovered from adversity after receiving business capital assistance and entrepreneurship training from YCP.

Improving School Community Nutrition Through School Nutrition Gardens

The Nutrition School Garden is a PROSPER II activity in an effort to provide alternative strategies for school communities to fulfill their nutrition. Through gardening activities, they can not only ensure nutritious intake but are also expected to have other effects on family finances by reducing some of their food expenditure.

In order to achieve this goal, PROSPER II held nutrition garden training in 10 PROSPER II partner schools in Serang and Bone Regencies with 31 female and 9 male participants. Participants has gained knowledge about the benefits, planting methods and ways to maintain or care for plants. In addition, participants received vegetable seeds to be developed at home or school, such as tomato, cayenne pepper, mustard greens, kale, spinach, and eggplant.

Even though it was held in different months, the results of the PROSPER II periodic monitoring indicated the success of this nutrition garden training. Some of the Serang participants revealed that they had harvested their gardens several times, and indirectly the results of the gardening succeeded in reducing their daily expenses. Meanwhile, participants in Bone Regency did not experience the harvest as experienced by Serang Regency participants, but additional material in the field of environmental management and waste management motivates schools to improve the quality of their school environment. With this positive progress, it is hoped that the goal of the nutrition garden to improve the nutrition of the school community and their families can be achieved.

 

16 Days of Activism Against Violence to Women

16 Days of Activism (16 DoA) or 16 Days of Anti-Violence against Women is a global campaign that is celebrated every year from November 25 (Day of Anti-Violence against Women) to December 10 (Human Rights Day). In commemoration of the 16 DoA, Yayasan Care Peduli conducted a series of webinars in an effort to educate the general public on how to protect themselves, prevent and fight violence.

The 16 DoA began with a webinar on 25 November organized by YCP and UN Women Indonesia with the theme “Change the Narrative: The Role of Media in Preventing Violence against Women” which was also attended by Bintang Puspayoga as Minister of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection of the Republic of Indonesia as well as actor and film producer Lola Amaria. In the following week, inviting various community leaders such as the Head of the Jakarta Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Service, the Head of the South Jakarta Police Unit, a Junior High School Counseling Teacher, and several companions for victims of violence, YCP also held two other webinars with the theme “My Body is My Rights” and “The Linkage of Domestic Violence and Violence in Work Places.”

The 16 DoA campaign was concluded with a webinar hosted by CARE Asia Pacific (AP Hub) discussing the importance of a locally led response to address the increase in gender-based violence during the pandemic.

Food Security with Hydroponic Gardens

The Handover of Hydroponic farming business facilities to 4 Cooperatives and 1 Hydroponic Farmer Group from the Sigi Regency and Donggala Regency was held on February 2, 2022, at the Hydroponic farming location in Pombewe Village, Sigi Biromaru District, Sigi Regency.

As a continuation of the post-Tsunami 2019 program, the Hydroponic Agriculture Program aims to increase the production of hydroponic vegetables to meet market demand in Central Sulawesi. In addition to its fast-harvesting nature, hydroponic vegetables will help food security where vegetables can be grown all year round, regardless of the climate or weather outside.

The total number of hydroponic farming facilities handed over was 42 units of hydroponic vegetable planting media/tables and their equipment in Sirenja and Kulawi sub-districts, namely in Pombewe Village, Bolapapu Village, Mataue Village, Tompe Village and Lompio Village.
