JEKATA BRINGS HARMONY TO IBU TIN’S FAMILY

Share it with others

A resilient story unfolds from Purwakarta Regency. It is the story of a 38-year-old mother and female garment worker who previously experienced dual-role conflict in her family. After joining JEKATA (Resilient Women’s Group Network), she found harmony in her family.

After work, Ibu Tin Kartini (Ibu Tin) has to do household chores, such as washing dishes, sweeping, and taking care of her two children. Ibu Tin cannot express her feelings towards her husband, as she feels embarrassed to ask for help. Ibu Tin feels that her husband is quite difficult to talk to, let alone work with. This dual role conflict has been carried by Ibu Tin since the beginning of her marriage until her children are teenagers.

In 2019, Ibu Tin’s life began to change. She attended trainings for JEKATA members organized by Yayasan CARE Peduli.

I have attended more than 10 trainings with JEKATA and Yayasan CARE Peduli. I think the most useful training is gender training because it can change the mindset of me and other friends.

Now, Ibu Tin has the courage to be honest with her husband and become more confident. In addition, good communication is also established between Ibu Tin, her husband, and her children.

The changes in her family did not happen instantly but took a process. Now, her husband understands and is willing to help with house chores such as washing dishes and sweeping. Mrs. Tin’s teenage son, Ujang, now helps to sweep and wash clothes.

Arriving home after work, Ibu Tin only has to fold the clothes; her husband and children now help with household chores together. Like a tumor that has been removed, Ibu Tin’s double burden is no longer there. Ibu Tin can see the benefits of joining JEKATA: good cooperation and harmony in her household.
