Efforts to improve community well-being, particularly among women’s groups, and promote a circular economy were advanced through the inauguration of the Maggot Center by Yayasan CARE Peduli and PT Hindoli – Cargill, with the support of the Musi Banyuasin District Government (24/09).

The establishment of the Maggot Center is expected to support local economic opportunities in communities surrounding oil palm plantations while reducing organic waste. Women’s groups, together with the surrounding community, will manage the facility, with a target of processing up to two tons of organic waste per day.

“Waste generation in Sungai Lilin Sub-district can reach approximately 20 tons per day, including waste from SPPG. Facilities such as this represent a valuable innovation for processing organic waste and reducing the amount of waste sent to landfills. The resulting maggot production also has economic value, while helping reduce emissions and improve environmental quality.”
